Chocolate Marble Pound Cake – My first recipe post #FlavoursomeTuesdays

I am not a passionate cook, though I like to cook.

Is it confusing?

I like to bake. I used to bake a lot earlier, but now, not so much. Still every now and then I like to get on with baking experiments. A couple of months ago, I posted a picture of Chocolate Marble pound cake on Instagram and Facebook. I got so many requests to share the recipe for the cake. I promised all of them that I will share the recipe but never got around it until now. Better late than never, right?

I used the recipe from Martha Stewart’s website with some slight variations to it.

Just like the original recipe, I prepared the batter for two pound cakes – one classic pound cake and a chocolate pound cake – then mixed the batter together to make the batter for marble pound cake.

Let’s start by turning the heat up, shall we? Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (160 degrees C).

Ingredients for Classic Pound Cake Batter

All-purpose flour – 1/2 pound (1 1/2 cups)
Unsalted butter softened – 2 sticks
Vanilla extract – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt – 1/2 tablespoon
Sugar – 1 cups
Eggs – 4 large
Baking powder – 1 teaspoon(I used baking powder. This was not in the original recipe.)

Method to make Classic Pound Cake

Butter a 5-by-9-inch loaf pan. Combine all-purpose flour and salt in a bowl.
Cream butter and sugar in a mixer at high speed until pale and fluffy for 8 minutes. Reduce speed to medium and add vanilla extract and baking powder.
Beat eggs and add to the mixer in 4 additions scraping the sides of the bowl. Reduce the speed to low and add flour in 4 additions, mixing well.

Ingredients for Chocolate Pound Cake Batter

All-purpose flour – 1 cup
Unsweetened cocoa powder – 1/2 cup
Unsalted butter softened – 2 sticks
Vanilla extract – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt – 1/2 tablespoon
Sugar – 1 cups
Eggs – 4 large
Baking powder – 1 teaspoon(I used baking powder. This was not in the original recipe.)

Combine batters to make the chocolate marble pound cake-

Scoop batters into the prepared pan, alternating between the plain and chocolate batters. Now the fun part – swirl with a knife and tap on the counter to even out the tops. Use your imagination, get creative, it’s all up to you. Every time I make a marble pound cake I follow different patterns. It’s so much fun. 🙂

Bake for about 60 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the center of the cake and if it comes out clean our cake is done. If the batter is sticking to the sides of the toothpick then Bake for another 5-10 minutes and check again.

Let the cake cool in pan on a wire rack for 30 minutes. Remove from the pan, and let cool completely on wire rack.

Your Chocolate Marble Pound Cake is ready to be devoured! 🙂

Note:

Modifications to the original recipe – I used half amount of the original ingredients to make one marble pound cake. All the ingredient quantities given are based on my baking experiment. I am not a professional baker. My experiments with the flour and oven haven’t resulted in life-threatening injuries to anyone who has consumed the baked goodies. However, I would urge you to use your judgment while following the recipe I shared. 🙂

    1. So glad you liked the recipe, Shalini – the Master Chef! Do try and tell me how you liked it. ?

  1. You are very bad girl!! 😛
The first post of my day I read had to be about chocolate cake!! Precisely when I am yearning to eat one! Hehehe
It’s been ages since I baked. So, I am going to save this recipe and when my oven is in a spic-n-span condition and when I begin baking, this is the one I am going to bake. WIll share the picture with you!

Thank you for joining, Vini! Lovely cake! YUmmmmmm….<3

    1. Do try, Shilna. Though it looks difficult it isn’t. All you have to do is to make two batters and mix them together. You can even try with the same cake recipe you normally use to make the batters.
Looking forward to see the picture, Shilpa. I’m so glad that I finally finished and published this post. Thank you for hosting #flavoursometuesdays.
BTW, I couldn’t find the links in your blog, only in Sunita’s blog the links was available. What happened? It would’ve been easier if the links was available in both the blogs. ?

      1. I will bake it, for sure, Vini!

I tried the Linky thing on my blog, but couldn’t get it through past the html. And I don’t understand the techno stuff very well, so I asked Sunita to add it to her post. ?

  2. That looks too good! I’ve always been a fan of marble cakes, but never of cooking. :p It just doesn’t go well with me. Thanks for sharing the recipe anyway, it would help with my sister’s cooking experiments.

    1. I am cooking and baking because of my kids. It isn’t that bad once you get the hang of it, Darshana. I have many stories of burnt food and over toasted toasts to share. ? Hope your sister tries and likes the recipe. ☺️
Glad to see you back in this space, Darshana!

    1. Oh it was yummy! My son loves marble cake or anything with chocolate in it. He is my motivation to try out new recipes. Do try it out, Shilpa. ?

  3. A mouthwatering cake that I could simply tuck into, right now, as I type away, totally famished! Vinitha, I am definitely going to try this recipe because it feels so easy and simple. I love cooking but I need to be in the mood first. Baking sounds tempting although I always find some pretext to discard my plans at the nth minute. Not this time for sure. 🙂

  4. This looks great, Vinitha! The cake has come out well.
I love cake. Always ready for Chocolate cake!
    Congrats for your first recipe:)

What do you think? Please share! :)
