Life Random Thoughts

My #10YearChallenge

It’s hard to miss the #10YearChallenge floating around in social media channels lately. I didn’t post my photos from now and then; mostly because I am lazy when it comes to social media.

How was I 10 years ago?

  • Married for just a year
  • Slim and trim
  • No grey hairs
  • Childfree
  • Completed a year of leaving my job
  • Devasted about not working
  • Joined for MBA correspondence course
  • Wasn’t worried or anxious as today
  • In the process of learning to cook
  • Had lots of free time
  • Had lovely friends close by
  • Wasn’t writing or blogging
  • Life was good

How am I 10 years later?

  • Married for 11 years
  • Not slim anymore
  • A lot of grey hairs
  • Two children
  • 11 years since I left my darling job
  • Devasted about not working
  • Successfully completed my MBA postgraduation
  • Learned multiple software skills by myself
  • Way too worried about tomorrow
  • Can cook and bake
  • No free time
  • No friends close by
  • Writing and blogging has become my constant companions
  • Life is good

See, so many changes. In fact, life has taken a complete U-turn in many areas of my life in just ten years. But, that was to be expected. As one age, one has to learn and grow. It is only part of life to have no free time and be busy with life in itself. That means you are growing as a person as a whole, and not just your age.

Despite that, there are few regrets that threatens to choke the life out of me every now and then. In further introspection I inferred that I need to take steps to rectify the regret. Fortunately, I have taken the first step already. Unfortunately, I take the first step always and fail at the later stages.

I hope that this is where the 10 years of wisdom chimes in. I don’t want to repeat this 10 years from now. I don’t want to have these regrets 5 years from now.

#10yearChallenge

10 years from now I would like to see me

  • Married for 21 years
  • Healthier and fitter than today
  • Many more grey hairs
  • My two children independent yet dependent enough to make me feel wanted
  • Restart my long lost career
  • Happy about working and earning
  • Continue to learn and grow
  • A better handle on stress
  • Rekindle old friendships and make new friends
  • Continue to write and blog
  • Publish that book
  • Life be good

Now that’s my #10yearchallenge. I know I will be older and look older, too. But that doesn’t bother me. All I want is to feel that 10-year weight in every aspect of my life. For me, that would be a well-lived life.

So, what do you think? Did you do the #10YearChallenge?

  1. This is a lovely way to take the challenge. A major key here is to startstart cultivating or rekindling friendships once more. Well worth the effort to have friends, all the better if it is people close to you distance wise too.

  2. I wish you all your 10 years hence things, Vinitha. For me the last 10 years have been the most challenging of my life but overall I am happy and satisfied. And that is all that matters.

  3. I loved this idea of the 10 yr challenge, Vini! See?? You are so creative! Guess, I will do this on my blog next week. Thanks for this idea! <3

10 yrs ago, yes, life was different for you. And, today, however much you might not feel so good about you, I feel, you ought to take into consideration that you are an MBA, learned so much by yourself, raised/are raising two boys so beautifully and blogging, too. And, you do have friends, only they aren't nearby. Some live in India ( 😛 ) and some in UK. But, you do have friends, isn't it?

I hope 10 yrs from now, you are able to write a post that speaks how well you did for yourself despite all the stumbling blocks and how proud it makes you!

Wish you the best, dear! Start working towards your dream…one tiny step at a time…and I am sure you will reach your goal!

    Love!

  4. This is the bestest #10 YearChallenge that I have seen. Loved your journey!! 10 years have seen us change, learn and grow. The next 10 years will also see us do that. Here’s to glorious next 10 years, Vinitha!! ♥

  5. I love your #10yearchallenge after 10 years. My last 10 years has been more or less similar to yours, infact a lot similar to yours. I should also set my goals for the next 10 years. I loved this post Vinitha.

  6. It does give you perspective doesn’t it? I did something similar when I wrote my 35 lessons from 35 years…it was more how I had grown in the last 10 and yes, there have been physical changes too {slimmer, greyer, more wrinkles} but more emotional ones. I hope 10 years from now, you will be in a happy place and life will continue to be good

  7. Love you for writing this. You are so right that things change but then we are capable of owning things in the future. I would love to write this kind of post too. Just makes for such a good reflection time. Isn’t it?
I wish you fulfill all your wishes, Vinitha.

  8. 10 years is a huge time for life to change. I am glad that life has been good. After all, that is what matters in the end. 😊

  9. Wow! This is really a great idea to do. It would be cool to see all the accomplishments or goals reached, or where you’d want to make changes in your life. Kudos on that MBA too! Hugs…RO

  10. i really love the ideas of sharing that how you want to look yourself in coming 10 years. I really appreciate that.As I have never thought of any thing like that. But after reading your Article. I would love to make a list for myself.
