Be There For Yourself #SoulfulSunday

2020 is in its twilight zone. Soon it will melt into the night and 2021 will be here. I have been holding back on writing down my year review post.

I was in a holiday mood from last week. So I didn’t write or read.

Yesterday I sat down for some time and wrote down my goals for 2021. Most of them were familiar ones. In the end, I added, “be there for me”. That was a new one.

I feel we often neglect ourselves. We try to juggle hundreds of things at a time jeopardizing our sanity and peace.

That’s plain wrong. Our peace matters more than anything in the world, especially if we have other things to take care of.

All the goals I wrote down is to serve as a reminder when I get sidetracked. Of which this last one is the most important one. Perhaps I should stick it on the wall somewhere to see as soon as I wake up.

Be there for yourself – don’t take yourself for granted. Be your own person. Take care of yourself as you would take care of a dear friend.

I am going to try.

Written for #SoulfulSunday, an exercise to nourish our creative side, by listening to a 10 minute guided meditation followed by 10 minutes of writing, formulated by Esha and supported by Shilpa and yours truly on Sunday at 7 pm IST.

You are welcome to join this meditative writing session!

  1. Very valuable post, dear Vinitha. So glad you spelt it out.
“Be there for yourself – don’t take yourself for granted.” This, I loved the most! It’s my motto for 2021 and probably, for the rest of my life too.
I think you did the right thing by getting into the holiday mood. That might have got you to introspect and come up with this idea of focussing on yourself. I’ve been doing that for some days now, and I realise how silly I’ve been, giving away self-care for taking care of other things for so long—things which do not even last long enough for people to see.

  2. Oh, that’s one thing I have been reminding myself, too, Vini. To be there for myself and to treat myself the way I would treat my closest friend–with love and loads of care. And, gentleness. Three of the most important things we fail to give ourselves. I don’t know what the future holds for me. But, I do know, that I will be there for myself, a pillar of strength, cheering up, applauding myself and inspiring myself to keep going despite everything that goes wrong.

  3. We often forget that. Its might the way we have been brought up giving more value and importance to other than us. Certainly we need to give same importance to oneself. Its hard to practice though.

Your Sunday post is coming very nicely Vinitha, with good thoughts.
