Blog To Feed A Child

We talked about Ice Bucket Challenge to create awareness about ALS. We participated in the challenge, made donations, we did all we could. But there is another major threat which takes life away from both little kids and grown ups alike, that has been in the globe since the evolution of mankind. Do you know what it is? Hunger, yes hunger.

Here are some facts on hunger and starvation in India:

1. Over 7000 Indians die of hunger every day.

2. Over 25 lakh Indians die of hunger every year.

3. 1/3rd of the world’s hungry live in India.

4. Hunger remains the No.1 cause of death in the world. Aids, Cancer etc. follow.

5. During 2006 – 2007, malnutrition contributed to seven million Indian children dying, nearly two million before the age of one.

These are just a few stats. Think about actually going through starvation. Think about those kids who longs for a mouthful of food. When our kids gets happy seeing a new toy, there are kids who gets happier with a bite of food. Hunger is the reason that many kids in India are forced to give up schooling. Every day millions of children are forced to choose between hunger and education. Without access to even one square meal a day they have to work to help support their family, at the cost of their future success. Isn’t it sad that such a situation exists in this world?

There are malnutritioned kids plenty in India alone. The condition is worst in third world countries for obvious reasons. It is time we took step to put hunger to an end. When you waste food next time, remember that there are tiny stomachs who could use the food you are wasting.
