Do You Have a De-stress List? #SoulfulSunday

I love lists. I love making lists. I love thinking about making lists. I love the fact that they are handy and helpful.

One of the lists I keep with me all the time is a de-stress list. It’s there in all the bullet journals I’ve owned so far. You can call it a “self-care list” or a “happy things list”, too. Essentially, it’s a list of things that help me de-stress.

Why a De-stress list

Because I have a tendency to forget the most basic things that would help me calm down when I am stressed out. Stress, which then brings back my nemesis Mr. Migraine. Migraine headache once lays out its sleeping bag inside my head, it refuses to leave and accompanies me for a long time.

My mission is to keep the migraine away. Having a de-stress list, which immediately shows me all the things I love to do, is an instant happiness booster. And when my mind is happy, my head can easily stay out of the grasp of migraine.
The direct relationship between my stress levels and headache led to my de-stress list. Most often we wouldn’t know the reason for our discomfort, but it might very well be related to our stress levels.

What’s on my De-stress list

  • write in my journal
  • talk to a friend
  • do my favorite activity – planning
  • deep breath in
  • rest, relax, recharge
  • write a poem
  • do something creative
  • go for a walk
  • yoga
  • have a cup of tea or coffee
  • read or study
  • clean up and organize an area
  • digital organizing- photos, files, etc.

You might wonder why there are no pampering activities like skincare or salon visits on my list. That’s because skincare does not necessarily de-stress my mind. I have nothing against face masks and other skincare routines. But it isn’t an activity that I associate with stress relief.

However, cleaning up is definitely a stress buster for me. I love washing dishes after a good fight with my husband. Such a good activity for my soul!

Now tell me, do you have a de-stress list? And what’s on your list?

  1. Super post, Vinitha! And what a great idea—the de-stresslist. I’ve never made one on paper but I do have mine inside my head and that very often is the key to my destressing routine that I must indulge in, from time to time. All those things on your list are incidentally mine too, Vinitha. :)) Re-organising, journalling, doodling, skywatching, watching the outside world go by and singing are some things very very dear to me and definitely feature at the top of my list. And there are many more. Perhaps that should call for a blog post someday.

  2. No, I don’t have a de-stress list. But, there are things I do when I feel stressed. Like watch Netflix, or watch dance videos on You Tube, or go for a walk. Cleaning used to be my fav activity once upon a time, but now I do it when I am in the mood. I liked your list, Vini. 🙂

  3. The last line cracked me up. A fight with husband happens to become good for the dirty dishes 😀
Your de-stress list inspires me to make one of my own too. Last year, I made my self-care list but it was not a long one consisting of just 3-4 points. One of my greatest de-stresser is crocheting since it does not involve usage of the mind. Reading or writing a journal tend to get heavy for my already heavy mind. I should definitely think of more.
