I wrote my frist gratitude post in November last year. Acknowledging the things and people in my life that makes me happy and expressing my gratitude to all those little things is the best thing I have done for me. It made me realize the importance of little joys in my life. Most often these little joys are neglected and not appreciated, but if someone take these little things away, my life will be a mundane one with no sprinkling joys.
Like my son’s constant I-Love-Yous; it is part of my life and if he stops saying that every now and then, then a part of my smile will be lost.
I love going for a walk in the weekend with my husband and kid. It wouldn’t be a valuable one in someone else’s eyes, but you take it away from me, you are cutting down on my happiness quotient.
I love blogging and interacting with other bloggers, if and when I don’t do this be sure that I am in serious trouble, that I am not happy or excited with my life anymore.
See, these are few of the things that make me happy and the absence of which could affect me on many levels. If I don’t take the time to say thanks to the tiny big moments that keep me happy and alive, how can my life be any meaningful? And that’s why I write gratitude list every day. At the end of each day, I write down three or more moments or things that made me happy that day and say thanks to each of them. I am grateful that I do that because it’s not the big stuff that made it to my gratitude notebook, but the little things which we overlook are the ones that work hard in ensuring happiness.
It might sound silly to someone who hasn’t done that before, but I must say keeping a gratitude journal will change your outlook towards life and you will be happy beyond words when you do it. With that here is my gratitude list for this moment:
- We have been waiting to hear from the council about Kanna’s admissions and today morning we got the call. Kanna got into the school we hoped to get in. The school is less than 10 minutes walk from our home, that means we don’t have to catch a bus like in Worcester. The school opened yesterday and I was a little sad that he was not able to go on the first day. So was he. You should have seen how happy Kanna was when I told him the good news. He will start from Monday. 🙂 I am grateful on so many levels just because the admission came through.
- You know how thankful I am that we moved to a house from the hotel in less than 3 weeks. Over the last 18 months we had stayed in hotels for around 4 months and mind you, it was not a vacation. Hotel stay is only part of all that moving around which we are currently doing. And it’s not easy especially with a kid. So I am grateful to have a roof above my head, the inside of which includes a kitchen and a bedroom too, no matter short or long this stay is going to be!
- I am absolutely grateful that I am getting to talk with my dear friend again. All of us must have someone in our lives who actually understand what we talk. She is such a friend who actually tries to understand my perspective even if she couldn’t relate with it. I am getting some phone time with her these days. We both are not in ideal scenarios but when life hands you lemons, we make lemonade and good friends share it with each other, right Rohini?
I am stopping me here because if you have noticed my post is getting longer and longer. Stay grateful, that’ the only way to tackle this thing called life!
