Friday Reflections Gratitude

I am thankful.. #FridayReflections

I wrote my frist gratitude post in November last year. Acknowledging the things and people in my life that makes me happy and expressing my gratitude to all those little things is the best thing I have done for me. It made me realize the importance of little joys in my life. Most often these little joys are neglected and not appreciated, but if someone take these little things away, my life will be a mundane one with no sprinkling joys.

Like my son’s constant I-Love-Yous; it is part of my life and if he stops saying that every now and then, then a part of my smile will be lost.

I love going for a walk in the weekend with my husband and kid. It wouldn’t be a valuable one in someone else’s eyes, but you take it away from me, you are cutting down on my happiness quotient.

I love blogging and interacting with other bloggers, if and when I don’t do this be sure that I am in serious trouble, that I am not happy or excited with my life anymore.

See, these are few of the things that make me happy and the absence of which could affect me on many levels. If I don’t take the time to say thanks to the tiny big moments that keep me happy and alive, how can my life be any meaningful? And that’s why I write gratitude list every day. At the end of each day, I write down three or more moments or things that made me happy that day and say thanks to each of them. I am grateful that I do that because it’s not the big stuff that made it to my gratitude notebook, but the little things which we overlook are the ones that work hard in ensuring happiness.

It might sound silly to someone who hasn’t done that before, but I must say keeping a gratitude journal will change your outlook towards life and you will be happy beyond words when you do it. With that here is my gratitude list for this moment:

  1. We have been waiting to hear from the council about Kanna’s admissions and today morning we got the call. Kanna got into the school we hoped to get in. The school is less than 10 minutes walk from our home, that means we don’t have to catch a bus like in Worcester. The school opened yesterday and I was a little sad that he was not able to go on the first day. So was he. You should have seen how happy Kanna was when I told him the good news. He will start from Monday. 🙂  I am grateful on so many levels just because the admission came through.
  2. You know how thankful I am that we moved to a house from the hotel in less than 3 weeks. Over the last 18 months we had stayed in hotels for around 4 months and mind you, it was not a vacation. Hotel stay is only part of all that moving around which we are currently doing. And it’s not easy especially with a kid. So I am grateful to have a roof above my head, the inside of which includes a kitchen and a bedroom too, no matter short or long this stay is going to be!
  3. I am absolutely grateful that I am getting to talk with my dear friend again. All of us must have someone in our lives who actually understand what we talk. She is such a friend who actually tries to understand my perspective even if she couldn’t relate with it. I am getting some phone time with her these days. We both are not in ideal scenarios but when life hands you lemons, we make lemonade and good friends share it with each other, right Rohini?

I am stopping me here because if you have noticed my post is getting longer and longer. Stay grateful, that’ the only way to tackle this thing called life!

  1. I think its important to keep having gratitude blog posts atleast once a month. I had my first one last month and I just remember smiling while writing it… thinking of the small but happy moments of the past

  2. Lil’ things make your life, right! Glad that your kid got into the school that you all hoped for- that too near! Such a blessing in the long run 🙂

    1. Yes, it is a blessing, Shalini. 🙂 I know, having to catch the bus that may or may not come in the freezing mornings, we both suffered quite a lot last year. And yeah, little things matter to me the most. 🙂

  3. Your post inspires me to write a gratitude post too. I’ve never written one, and I can see the benefits of doing the same. You’ve come up with a list of heartwarming pointers to be grateful for. A roof above your head being the one that touched me the most. 🙂

  4. Lots of good news for you! And I totally agree with the importance of expressing gratitude even for what seems like the little things. Thank you so much for sharing your post on the Gratitude Linkup. 🙂

  5. Yes, those little things in life… they are really life itself right. I think someone who can not feel grateful for what they have can never be happy… A heartwarming post from you- loved it:-)

  6. I also keep a gratitude journal by my bed and list 3 things that I am grateful for each day, thank you for sharing this with us at #Fridayreflections, I chose the same prompt as you this week

  7. What a lovely gratitude list. The little gratitudes add up to make large things in our lives, don’t they Vinitha? Lovely post. 🙂

  8. Great going, Vinitha! Glad that things are working out so well for you! Touchwood and stay blessed always! ♥

  9. Totally agree – being grateful is the best way to live each single day. That’s a lovely list Vinitha. Congrats on Kanna’s admission. 10 mins walk is awesome for him and for you 🙂

  10. The gratitude post brings in a smile and spreads that. Such a lovely post Vinitha. Glad to hear the admission news 🙂 Kanna will rock! 🙂 Cheers and best wishes!
