#MicroblogMondays – Keeping up with the ‘Word of the Year’

Schools are reopening here this week after the summer vacation. We are still waiting to hear back from the School Admissions about Kanna’s admission. According to the Admissions Office, we will hear back from them before September 18th.

It’s a long wait. Kanna hasn’t been going to school since we traveled back to Inda from Worcester. That was at the end of March. We are yet to buy his school uniforms and stuff. The problem is here in the UK, admissions happen through the county, not the schools. All we can do is fill the application form with a choice of three schools and send it to the admissions department and then wait to hear back from them. The Solihull School Admissions department will review the application and contact the schools of our choice and will place the kid depending on where a seat is available.

They are bound to give us admission within our catchment area. But since we are far too late in applying we never know. There is only one school in our catchment area. So we might or might not get admission in that school. So until we get a solid confirmation, we can’t buy uniforms, school bags, etc.

Now, I expected to see me panicking in this situation. But I am not. I am making lists and planning things, but not panicking. After all, my Word of the Year was CALM. And I feel calm. I think whatever lesson the Uncertainty God wanted to teach me, in fact, got through to me! Otherwise how and why will I stay calm at this point?

    1. Yes, I am hoping for the best, Anamika. If I stop to think I will and can find a hundred things that can go wrong. So I am not thinking, just waiting for everything to happen the way it would. Hopefully, it will be just the way we want it! 🙂

  1. I think the process there is much better compared to the horrors of Bangalore 🙂

I am a great advocate of ‘Staying Calm’ whatever be the situation is…

Hope ‘Kannan’ is enjoying his extended hoildays 🙂

    1. Yes, the process is smoother than in India. But schools here have no control on the admission process. So it’s a bit of blind spot from our point of view and the school’s.
Yes, Kannan is enjoying his lengthy holidays, he is bored at the same time. I am so thankful that he is growing into a sensible kid that he never troubles me these days. I am enjoying his company more than anything else. 🙂

  2. Good for you! I’m impressed that you’re remaining calm. I should have made that my word of the year because I always worry needlessly.

  3. 🙂 Getting worked up is easy! And in this situation, quite normal Vinitha! But am glad you chose CALM – worrying usually doesn’t help…rather, it takes away the energy you could channel towards positive stuff. Hugs to you! And am sure everything will be absolutely alright!

  4. Good luck with the process. It sounds different and may be more fair than we have in India. Kanna is a very well behaved boy and I am glad I had a chance to meet him 🙂

  5. This is a difficult situation, no doubt. I’m glad your calmness is working. It might interest you to know that we had this situation quite often when we were growing up. With Dad in the Army, we moved almost every two years. Since my parents were very particular about the schools we went to, we would often have to wait. Once, I waited a whole year. Such a fun year it was! 🙂 And despite it, I finished school a year early! Every thing will work out just fine, Vinitha. ♥

  6. Yes, the “let go” of things out of out control is so great… To worry about something that might not happen can take away the joy of today… But so understand you – hope it all works out for you:-) Hugs

  7. All the best for the further process.. And I am amazed at the word you chose for the year and sticking to it.. plus this word must have given you so much of positivity and tranquility at the same time..!!
