Random Random Thoughts

My favorite books

I won’t say I am an ardent reader. I used to be like that; immersed into the pages of the book I was reading, putting off eating and everything else, but I changed. I think it was part of growing up. πŸ™‚

I have few favorite books. Of all the books I have read so far, twoΒ stand out for me. One is Poems of Emily Dickinson and second one, Harry Potter series.

Poems of Emily Dickinson is the one that stays close to my heart for reasons I never know. I like to read and read and read it. I read it when I am lost, when I feel happy, when I am in need of inspiration. I just have some kind attachment towards her poems. I have other favorite poets and poems too, but nothing comes close to this. I just love it.

Now, Harry Potter series, I love it not because of Harry or Ron or Hermione, the credit goes to Dumbledore, the wise man. This is another one I reread many times. I think so far I have read the entire series for the 8th time and I’m sure I will read it again, only I don’t have the books with me right now, I couldn’t take them with me when moved to UK. πŸ™ I am not really a fan of the movies though. But that was given, wasn’t it, considering how movies always fail to do justice to the book. I felt so. One thing, I read the first Harry Potter book only 6 years ago, almost 11 years later than it appeared first. I got a chance to read 8 years ago but I didn’t like it after reading the first chapter. How things change when you give it time!

Every time I read Harry Potter, I understand what Dumbledore meant a little more. His words have wisdom. And the simple way he explains the complexities, I just can’t get enough of that. I truly wish sometimes, ‘if only there was someone like Dumbledore in my life’.

So these are my two favorite books. What about you? Do you have books which stay close to your heart. Do you reread the same again and again? Would you like to share with me in the comments? Please do!

  1. Reading is a habit which is fast disappearing I feel… especially people who read real literature.

Great to see a discussion on books and the whole thought process behind reading here.

I used to read a lot during my school and college days but, now a days, I am finding it hard to complete a book in a month…

    Have a beautiful day πŸ™‚

    1. It happens with all of us, right, reading taking a back seat as life gets on the way. I used to read a lot before almost 7 years back, now I have to remind me to read. πŸ™‚ But truth is I like reading. Thank you for taking time to read, Sreejith. πŸ™‚

  2. I am a potter head for life! Those people who say HP is for kids don’t understand the hidden wisdom of simple things in the book. They speak volumes of friendship, loyalty and courage πŸ™‚

    1. Absolutely true, Divya. Potter is not for kids. True, it features kids but it talks about a lot more than an 11-year-old can understand. I read it when I was 24. It isn’t just a kid’s tale. πŸ™‚

  3. Books are the best friends of people especially when they feel dejected due to some or other reason. Those who keep some books close to heart really take the essence of the books in good spirit. And you seem to be one such person. The way you have spelt your name shows you are a Keralite. Am I right?
