Inspiration. It’s a loaded word. This word has so much responsibility.
I have been looking to find some inspiration with no luck over the past few weeks. The inspiration to write, that is. And then I find her standing in our community pool of all the places.
Some ten days ago we two guys installing this sort of massive-looking structure beside the pool. It was a surveillance system that will go off and alert the neighborhood if anyone goes to the pool during the after-hours, that is between 10 pm and 6 am. This system was installed after we found some strangers who didn’t belong to our community using the pool by bypassing the lock system with no difficulty whatsoever. Instead of strengthening the lock system, our HOA decided this surveillance system was the solution.
Since Friday night the newly installed security system started to go off every other second. Sometimes in the presence of people, sometimes without any provocation from anyone. This leads to the question – is it sensing some paranormal activity around the pool that is invisible to the human eyes?
Saturday was a siren day for us. We live next to the pool so every displeasure that this fella airs out lands on our ears and eventually heart without a failure.
Today, Sunday, the day started off without the alarm noise. Then I heard the sound blaring again and again. But it was irregular. There was no pattern. Sometimes it stayed quiet even though people were using the pool. Sometimes it lets out its notorious voice out with no mercy just like that.
What is it trying to do! What does it want! The questions keep coming. We are patiently waiting for the thingamajiggy to quiet down.
Meanwhile, my beautiful mind penned down a poem inspired by the pool guardian. I wish I could share the noise that ultimately was my inspiration with you in its physical form. But for now, pacify your senses with this poem. Try to imagine a screeching alarming noise to achieve a complete sense of the poem.
An ode to the Guardian of the Pool
In a corner, I stood
Showing off my complicated structure
For people to marvel
As I took charge
To guard this place one fine morning.
Soon I got the opportunity
To show off my ability
To guard the place
As I emitted the noise
To the dismay of the neighbors
Into the night so quiet.
No one was allowed
Between 10 pm and 6 am,
I was told.
But I took one step further,
In utmost sincerity
I guarded the place
And blared the sirens
When anyone fancied a dip, a second past 9!
As days passed, my sincerity grew
And I changed my night duty
Into a full-time job,
The alarm blared day and night,
With or without people
Anyone sneaking in at night
Wasn’t my problem anymore
As I sent out warning sirens every other second,
Even the gentle wind couldn’t get past me!
So much I care
Guarding the pool at the Woodside community,
A well-guarded pool I present
You shall enjoy a splash in my company!
